Tendulkar joins the Twitter bandwagon

He opened a Twitter account at 11: 55 pm on Tuesday night and in less than 45 minutes had crossed a thousand followers.
Tendulkar's tweets can be accessed at www.twitter. com/Sachin_ rt.His Twitter account is expected to create as much buzz as when any of the world's great sportspersons joined the world's most popular microblogging site that now has close to 100 million users worldwide.
Twitter's popularity itself might soar in India, which is, at present, the world's ninth highest Twitter traffic country. Of course, American and European sportspersons have already adopted Twitter.
Cycling champion Lance Armstrong, British tennis player Andy Murray, English footballer Steven Gerrard, top tennis player Serena Williams and American basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal are already on Twitter with hundreds of thousands of followers Tendulkar's first tweet was posted at 11: 55 pm IST.
He said: ''Finally the original SRT is on twitter. the first thing I'd like to do is wish my colleagues the best in the Windies.''
The world's highest run getter in both Test as well as One-Day Internationals was apparently partying with photographer Atul Kasbekar and filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra at an undisclosed location last night when he opened his account.
For his second tweet, Tendulkar posted a photograph of the three of them together and tweeted: ''Hanging with Vinod Chopra and @ atulkasbekar... 3 more idiots???'' He was referring to Chopra's blockbuster Three Idiots starring Aamir Khan.
Then, in a jocular manner, he said: '' Vinod Chopra has a script called 'Ferrari Ki Sawaari'... Just heard it, sounds awesome.'' Tendulkar joins Virender Sehwag, who already has an account Twitter.
In fact, Sehwag announced the birth of his second son on Tuesday on Twitter.

England moves to Super Eight of ICC World Twenty20

Guyana: England moved to the Super Eight of the ICC World Twenty20 after their Group D match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain at the Providence Stadium.
Chasing a modest target of 121 runs, Ireland were 14 for one in 3.3 overs when heavy rains interrupted the match for the second time. Play had to be finally called off.
England thus moved to the Super Eight, pipping Ireland on the basis of a superior run rate. West Indies is the other team to have reached the second stage having topped the group.
Ireland put up a spirited bowling performance to restrict England to 120 for eight.
Put in, England lost wickets at regular intervals before Eoin Morgan (45) and Luke Wright (20) steadied the innings with a 41-run stand for the fifth wicket. But after Boyd Rankins broke the partnership, dismissing Wright, England again against lost quick wickets in the final overs.
Rankins took two wickets giving away 25 runs while Kevin O'Brien also got two wickets for 22 runs.

India's top order moving towards stability

India, May 4 -- Suresh Raina has finally arrived. Even as critics take some convincing if he is an accomplished one-day bat or if he could be promoted to Test level, there is little doubt the UP lad has worked out the Twenty20 code.
Statistics show Raina took 60 balls for his 101 runs. But his final 82 runs came from 38 balls. It implies that he took time to take roots at the crease. If Raina bats this long he is sure to smash a few deliveries beyond the ropes.
Against South Africa, he helped himself to five sixes. While his trademark blow remains the heave over midwicket and widish long-on, he has many more strokes in his repertoire. He chips the ball well over the infield and is wristy enough to find the gaps at will. He is determined to make the number three position all his own. The biggest improvement has been his shot selection.
A good team needs to have six or seven players who can bowl. Similarly, a few all-rounders and bowlers who can use the long handle should take care of the final 15-20 balls of the innings.

Pakistan needs Asif, says Akram

Asif was replaced by the Twenty20 International debutant Mohammad Asif during Pakistan's 21-run win over Bangladesh. The greenshirts retained the same bowling combinations against the Australians on Sunday that was given a hammering during their 34-run loss thanks to a brutal batting display by Shane Watson and David Hussey.
"Pakistan, on the other hand, gave away too many runs against Australia in the second match. They lost an important toss, and batting on these slow wickets in the second innings is very difficult," Akram, a former Pakistan captain and fast bowler, said.
"Pakistan's combination also was not right. I do not know why Mohammed Asif is not playing. Mohammed Sami is a talented bowler and he did well against Bangladesh, but against the Kangaroos his length was not up to the mark. That's why he conceded so many runs. Asif has proved time and again his class and should be brought back without further ado."
"To sum it up, the defending champions did not look prepared for the match, which is quite understandable as they have not played much cricket in the last couple of months or so. But Pakistan soon have to adapt to the challenges in the Caribbean," he said.
